This video depicts Fiona's 11-month cruise from Long Island, NY, to Greenland, the Northwest Passage and through the Bering Strait, to the Aleutian Islands. From there the ship sailed across the Gulf of Alaska to San Francisco. After a brief stopover, the cruise continued to Mexico, Costa Rico, the Panama Canal, Colombia and home through the Windward Passage, thus completing a circumnavigation of North America. Frequent reference is made to early explorers who pioneered the discovery of the Northwest Passage. There are exciting scenes as Fiona became trapped in the pack ice for three days.

The video is produced by The Green Ocean Race, which is a proposal by Captain Forsyth to dramatize the future awaiting us when the planet's fossil fuels are exhausted. Yachts will sail a transoceanic race without any fuel on board--all energy used by the crew will be generated by the boat's motion through the water or by wind and sunlight. This is analogous to the earth flying through space under the same conditions, but striking an optimistic note; alternatives can be developed.
